To all Hixson High Band Boosters:

Parents, please note that for this years wrapping booth EVERYONE (parents & students) has to have a signed waiver on file before you can work a shift in the wrapping booth. These waiver forms are attached as PDF files to this email. Please return completed and signed forms to the school or bring them to the wrapping booth prior to your first working shift. Copies of these forms will also be sent home with the students. Completed forms will be kept in the booth (in a red binder) as proof that we are in compliance with the mall’s policies. Furthermore, you must sign in and out of the wrapping booth on forms that will be provided for that purpose.

We also need help in setting the booth up on the afternoon of Sunday, Nov 30th. We will meet at the school at 5 PM to load everything into the rental truck. We cannot begin work to setup our kiosk in the mall until after 6 PM. If you have any questions, please call or e-mail me, and again thanks for all you do.

It’s that time of year again. One of our largest fundraisers, the wrapping booth at Northgate mall, will begin in a couple of weeks.

Thanks to Marcello Osario and Condor Hosting, the signup for the wrapping booth is available on-line on our website, www.hixsonband.org.

Please take a few moments and register you and your student for shifts at the wrapping booth. A copy of the signup spreadsheet will also be available in the band room for the students to use to register.

The hardest shifts to cover are the day shifts from 10am to 3pm and all shifts the week of Christmas.

Help is always needed to setup the Kiosk on the evening of November 30th and to disassemble and load it on the truck on Christmas Eve.

Remember, this fundraiser is critical in keeping our band fees the lowest in the area.

Alumni and their families are also encouraged to signup for shifts.

Thank you all very much for your continued support of the HHS Band.

Subj: Time to step up

Well, it is here. Senior night and my son's last home football game. As I look back on seven years of hard work for the HHS band boosters during marching season, I don't think so much about what all I had to give, but what my sons received from it. I know there are other senior parents, who have also worked very hard, thinking these same thoughts about their own involvement and what it meant to their sons and daughters.

But then I have another thought, and this one is not as pleasant. I think of how hard it has been to get parents to step up and become involved these last two years. Some of you underclassmen parents (and middle school parents) have
stepped up. You have worked shift after shift at the choo choo, the concession stand, and/or the wrapping booth, sought support for the band from our local area merchants, and helped in many other ways, and I thank you for all you have
done. But what about the rest of you?

Who will be the next ones to step up to the plate and help out? Yes, it is tiring work, sometimes in the cold or heat. But isn't it worth it? Aren't your kids worth it?

Tonight is senior night. Senior parents will be involved, and rightly so, with the activities of the night and will not be available to work concessions. So here is a chance for you to step up and help.

Soon, and very soon, the senior parents, and even alumni parents who help, will come to the point of no longer being involved. What will you do then? How will you know how to do the jobs that are left open, the jobs that must be done to
make band happen?

Wrapping booth will soon be starting up, and it must be manned by at least one adult every hour the mall is opened. If we don't do this, they could shut it down and not allow us access there anymore.

At this point of the year, we start to break even financially. Though there are some large expenses still to come for concert band, much of what we raise now is for next year's band to have the necessary funds to have band camp and start marching season. So, what is the cost of not stepping up? Well, monetarily, if these fundraisers aren't manned and fail, band fees will soar to a minimum of $1,250 per student. But isn't there a greater cost? My sons know I have supported their interest in music. They know I understood their desire to be involved in the band and the benefits to them of an education in the arts. Moreso, I know I have supported them. And that's something you can't put a price on.

Won't you step up to the plate? Call Laura Dilisio (619-1033) and make plans to help out for concessions at this last home game.

Senior Night
Hixson vs Red Bank
Friday NIght, October 31, 2008

We will be honoring the senior members of the football team, cheerleaders, and the marching band on Friday night. Please follow the schedule so we can make this a successful night for our students.

-Parents be at the football field at 6:45 P.M. Check in with Joan Duncan.
-Parents and seniors will be placed in position on the field at 6:55 P.M.
-The Senior NIght Program will begin at 7:00 P.M.
-Senior football players and their parents will be introduced first and then exit the field. Football players will join the team.
-Senior cheerleaders and their parents will be introduced next and then exit the field. Cheerleaders will join the squad.
-Senior Band members and their parents will be introduced next and then parents will exit the field and band members will take their places with the band so the pregame show can begin.

Coach White, Mrs. Bellamy, and Mr. McHenry will be presenting flowers to the mothers of the seniors. We will have a souvenir Senior NIght program for each family.

Thanks for all you do to support our programs and make Friday nights a success during football season.

Concessions needs are:

Inventory Wednesday 3:30 - 5:30

Shopping @ Sam's Friday AM (some time after 9am because that's when I get off work (24hr on ambulance Thursday) Unless some one wants to take list and go Thursday.

Pre game set up... 5 - 7 people would be very helpful. I will be there @ 4pm

Workers for cook & main concession stand... Total needed 7 - 8

Please remember this last game is Senior night. This is a big night for our Seniors & their parents. So the concessions area needs volunteers

HHS Band – Itinerary for Division II State Championships, Nov. 1st, 2008

Eastern Time:

7:30 AM – Report, check equipment

8:00 AM – Load bus and leave HHS

Breakfast/Lunch (fast food) en route
Central Time: (one hour earlier)

11:00 AM – Arrive at Independence HS, dress, unload equipment

12:30 PM – Warm-up

1:15 PM – Perform

Take full band picture after performance
Return together to the bus to change; seniors need to be in warm-ups and band shoes for awards
2:45 PM – all band members in the stands to watch the last six bands in prelims

4:15 PM – Prelims Award Ceremony/drawing of finalist performance order

Should we make finals, warm-up and performance times will be TBA
If we do not make finals:

5 PM - end of awards

5:45 PM – back to the bus (use this time to buy souvenirs/t-shirts/programs)

6:15 PM – leave Independence HS

7:00 PM – dinner (fast food) en route

11:00 PM Eastern Time – Arrive in Hixson

band members please call your ride when we reach Chickamauga Dam on Hwy. 153
If we make finals:

TBA – Dress/warm up/perform

10:00 PM – Pass in review

10:15 PM – Finals Award Ceremony

11:00 PM – return together to the bus

11:15 PM – leave Independence HS

2:30 – 3 AM Eastern Time – Arrive in Hixson

We will be placing an order for warm-ups for band parents and chaperones on Tuesday, October 29th. The warm up is similar to, but not exactly the same as the band students’ warm-ups. Check out the “Eliminator” at www.GTMSportswear.com.

Attached you will find the form that needs to be returned with your payment by Tuesday, October 29.

Names in Warmups

As you are all aware, the warmup jackets and pants were passed out tonight in the band room. To avoid any confusion between what warmups belong to whom when we change back from uniforms tomorrow, we would like everyone to put your first name and last name initial in the inside of both your warmup jacket and your warmup pants. Please use a permanent sharpie marker. If you don't have a marker at home to do this, please show up a little early tomorrow. We will have markers in the band room you can use for this purpose. We would like each person's warmups to be marked before we board the bus for Rome. Thank you, Warren Baker Booster President
