ETSBOA SENIOR CLINIC PRACTICE AND AUDITION INFORMATION Senior Clinic auditions are coming up soon and below you will find information about practice times with Mr. McHenry, a free Audition Clinic at East Ridge High School and information about the actual ETSBOA Auditions. I. ETSBOA practice times with Mr. McHenry Mr. McHenry will be in the band room on Monday, January 2nd and Tuesday, January 3rd from 10am 1pm to help students who want to practice their scales or music for Senior Clinic Auditions. Come by whenever you can. II. Free All-East Practice Audition Clinic Who: Band members trying out for Senior Clinic What: Free All-East Audition Clinic When: Friday, January 6, 2012, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM Where: East Ridge HS Band Room This is a chance for everyone trying out for Senior Clinic to get some great experience playing the audition music in front of other people. There will be volunteer judges to give you tips on your audition and a sight-reading workshop where everybody will work on sight reading skills together. III. ETSBOA Senior Clinic Audition Information Who: Band members trying out for Senior Clinic When: Sat., January 7, 2012 (contact Mr. McHenry for your audition time) Where: Bearden HS 8352 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN Directions: Take I-75 N to Knoxville. Follow the I-75/40 East split. Get off at Exit 379 and stay on the terrace road. Turn R on Gallaher Rd. SW. Turn L on Kingston Pike. The school will be on your right. Audition Tips: Get some sleep and eat breakfast! Plan to get there 45 minutes to an hour before your tryout time. Dont wear yourself out warming up make yourself put the horn down every few minutes. You may go to the audition rooms in any order (Scales, SR, Prepared). The judges cant see or talk to you (so their scores arent biased). There will be a band director monitoring each room who can answer any questions you might have. Some rooms only use one or two sight-reading pieces; dont panic if you dont get to play all three.

Wrapping Booth-final days!!

As of today, it appears that every shift of the wrapping booth has at least one person working it, which is much better than where we were the other day. However, as we near Christmas, it gets busier and busier and one to two people working the booth simply isn't enough! I can tell you for a fact that from 10 am - 2 pm today (Saturday, December 17th) we had three adults and one student working and we stayed extremely busy the entire time! I'm sure that the boosters and students working the later shifts experienced the same thing. Yet even as busy as we were, we had a great time! People coming to the booth told us repeatedly how glad they were that the Hixson Band provided this service and that they came back year after year. We certainly don't want to lose that! So, please, won't you help us out as we enter our final days of this season? We have several shifts each day, that need more help. Each shift has a responsible person, so all you have to do is show up and help! Students, please remember, that we have the wrapping booth every year, so that you can have a great band program. Hixson High has proven repeatedly this year, that although we are a small organization, we are a talented and award winning organization and we need your help to keep it that way. Each student/family is supposed to work at least 5 shifts. Many have done way more than that, while others have done way less, and some, none at all. Please do your part at the booth! Alumni and former band booster parents, we would welcome your help also! Below you will find a list of days and shifts that need help. Hixson HS/MS Holiday Concert

Just a reminder that the HHS and HMS Bands will present their Holiday Concert this Thursday, December 15th at 6:30 PM in the HMS Gym. Report time for HHS band members is 5:30. Dress for the concert is black and white (same as the Hixson Community Tree Lighting performance). Hope to see you all there!

Once again, we need wrapping booth help! Please note there are no parents or students signed up for Saturday 6pm - 10pm, nor any parents or students for Monday 2pm - 6pm (we realize students are not out of school at 2, but they can sign up and come after school). Please look at your schedules and see where you can help. Also, please encourage your students to sign up. We have the help of three middle school kids this week which is excellent - where are the high school students??? I have a handful of students that volunteer each week and we have approximately 40 kids in the band. We only have 17 more wrapping days - and we can make it - if EVERYONE pulls together. Wrapping Booth Help needed

Thanks to all parents and band members who have already worked or signed up to work shifts at the wrapping booth! We appreciate your help! However, we still have many openings to fill, starting this weekend, so please help us out and take a couple of shifts. Each shift must have at least one adult, and several students or alumni to work. If you can help, please sign up today at www.hixsonband.org.

Hixson Chamber of Commerce Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

This Saturday evening (11/19/11) @ 6:00 PM at the Clear Creek Church of Christ there will be a performance by the award winning Hixson High School Band. The occasion is the annual Hixson Chamber of Commerce Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. At 5:30 PM, prior to the band performance, there will be cookies and refreshments served in the Cafe of the Clear Creek Church. Everyone is invited so please come by to enjoy and support your Hixson High School Band. All band members are expected to be at this performance and report time is 5:00 at Clear Creek Church of Christ.

HHS Band Itinerary for Div. 2 State Championships Saturday, Nov. 5th * We will load equipment and uniforms Friday afternoon 6:00 AM EDT Report to Band Room; eat breakfast (provided) 7:00 AM EDT Bus leaves HHS *Change to Central Daylight Time 8:45 AM CDT Arrive at IHS, unload truck, and change into uniform 10:00 AM CDT Warm up 10:45 AM CDT Prelims Performance 11:15 AM CDT Group pictures 11:45 AM CDT March back to bus, unload, and change Students will return to the stadium together to watch the contest. 4:15 PM CDT Prelims Awards Ceremony If we place in the top ten, we will perform again at Finals we will draw for our performance time right after the awards ceremony 4:45 PM CDT Dinner on campus (provided by band parents) 7-9:30 PM CDT Finals Performances 10:00 PM CDT Finals Awards Ceremony 11:00 PM CDT Board bus, leave HIS * Change back to Eastern Daylight Time 2:30 AM EDT Arrive at HHS If we do not make finals, we will leave campus at 5:15 PM (CST) and arrive at HHS at about 9 PM (EST) Reminders: The high temperature should be 67, but it will be much colder when we get there. Dress for the weather! You will need some meal money to eat at the stadium. Students will be asked to call home as soon as we find out about finals. Directions to Independence HS 1. Hixson HS Band Booster Update

Update on the Hixson vs. Central football game 1. The game is on and we are going. Report time to the band room is still 5:00 and game time is still 7:30. 2. Because of the weather, the uniform will be jeans and Hixson gear, so the band uniforms will be clean for tomorrows contest. Please remember that it will be cold and wet tonight, so please dress appropriately for the weather. NO Halloween costumes!

Correction - Friday Night Football/Saturday Competition

In the last email, I mistakenly put the game as being at Red Bank. As most everyone knows, the game is at Central High School. You will find the corrected info below. October 28th - Friday Night Football Game Hixson High Wildcats vs. Central Purple Pounders (AWAY) Game starts at 7:30 pm Band Report time is 5:00 pm Uniform for this game: Band Uniform 2011 Band t-shirt (Be sure your t-shirt is washed before Friday morning!) No khakis, jeans, or long pants under the uniform (shorts are fine) Black socks Band shoes Students will need to bring money if they want to purchase a snack from the Brainerd concessions. The game will end around 10:00ish. Students will ride the bus back to school, put up instruments and clean up before being dismissed. Make plans to pick up your student around 10:45-11:00. Please note the game ending time and dismissal time are approximate times. Students will call parents when they are on the way back to school. *Parents if you signed up to chaperone, please be there. Saturday, October 29th Marching Competition Alcoa High School Marching Band Competition Alcoa High School, Alcoa, TN Performance Time is 4:00 (at AHS Football Field) Band Report is 11.000 am (at Hixson High Band room) Uniform for this contest Band Uniform 2011 Band t-shirt No khakis, jeans, or long pants under the uniform (shorts are fine) Black socks Band shoes Students need to bring money to eat at concessions. Awards are at 7:30 pm, so we should be home around 11:00 pm. As usual this time is tentative. Students will call as we get closer to Hixson. Once back at school, students will put up uniforms and instruments and clean up the band room before being dismissed. Make plans to pick up your student around 11:30.
